Subak Museum

The Subak Museum is a museum that exhibits about a collection of traditional agricultural equipment which is used in farming. Subak is traditional Balinese irrigation systems.

The Subak Museum is also one of the tourist destinations as study tours which are visited by many students or tourists both domestic and foreign tourists. The Subak Museum is located in Banjar Anyar Village, Kediri District, Tabanan Regency, Bali Indonesia. The distance from Denpasar City is approximately 21 KM or around 47 minutes.

The History of Subak Museum

The history of the Subak Museum originated from an idea by I Gusti Ketut Kaler on August 17, 1975 which aims to preserve subak traditional institutions as a noble national cultural heritage and to introduce the unique traditional irrigation system in Bali to young people and tourists. I Gusti Ketut Kaler was an adat and religious expert who at that time worked at the Bali Provincial Office of Religion.

The idea was realized in the form of "Subak Museum Cultural Heritage" which was later called "Subak Museum". The Subak Museum was inaugurated on October 13, 1981 by the Governor of Bali Prof. Dr. Good Mantra.

The Layout of Subak Museum

The Subak Bali Museum is divided into two separate parts, namely the closed museum complex and the open museum complex. The closed museum section consists of two main buildings which have functions as information centers and exhibition buildings as well as audio-visual rooms, study rooms, libraries, offices and miniature subak irrigation systems. While the open museum is in the form of rice fields with subak irrigation systems.

In the two main buildings. The visitors can see, know and learn everything related to agriculture and traditional equipment commonly used in agriculture in Bali such as rice cutters and pounders, rice hijackers, etc.

And here visitors get complete information about how the Subak irrigation system as well as the rice processing process from beginning to end. Such as how to open up rice fields, divide water, make water tunnels, measure waterways and complete the process of religious ritual ceremonies.

The opening and closing hours of the Subak Museum

The Subak Museum has a schedule open every Monday - Thursday & Saturday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, and Fridays are open from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm. While Sunday and Museum Subak holidays are closed.
