Banjar Buddhist Temple

Brahmavihara-Arama or known as the Banjar Buddhist Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in Bali. Located in the village of Banjar Tegeha, Banjar Subdistrict, Buleleng Regency and in the quiet and peaceful hills of Tegeha village, the Banjar Buddhist Temple has a strong religious atmosphere especially in this area can see the scenery directly to the famous Lovina beach.

The History of Brahmavihara-Arama

Brahmavihara-Arama was founded by Bante Girri Rakhito Mahatera in 1958 and began to be rebuilt in 1969 and completed in 1970. Three years after its completion in 1973, then Brahmavihara-Arama was officially inaugurated as a Buddhist temple in Bali.

The Characteristic of Brahmavihara-Arama

Brahmavihara-Arama has several complexes but in the outline, it can be divided into 5 complexes, namely:

  • The first complex is Uposatha Gara, located on the western peak and a comfortable and quiet room. On the walls of Uposatha Gara there is a sculpture about the birth of the Buddha while in the middle there is a statue of the Buddha who is reaching the Samma of the Buddha or Nirvana (the heaven). The function of the Uposatha Gara Room is for the conquest of prospective monks and as an initial stage before following the next stage. In this place, the monks pronounce their vows and promises as the prospective monks.
  • The second complex is Dharmasala, located in the east and serves as a place of learning. In Dharmasala, the monks conduct devotional activities, give sermons, and as a place to do spiritual activities.
  • The stupa is the third complex of Brahmavihara-Arama which is located in the northwest corner. This stupa is in the form of a giant bell-shaped building. All sides of the stupa are made of the concrete with beautiful reliefs. Inside the stupa is said to have been kept sacred objects of the Buddha. One of which is a relic, which is a fireproof and sparkling object.
  • The Bodi Tree, a large tree surrounding. It is decorated with reliefs contained in a building. This place is often used as a visitor for meditation during the Vesak and Asada holidays. And has the meaning as the symbol of the victory of the Buddha reaching the Samma of the Buddha or eternal perfection.
  • The Kuti is a complex consist of several rooms that are used to study by the students and the monks also as a training place for the monks.

In addition, what is no less interesting than Brahmavihara-Arama is the presence of several Buddha statues that adorn every corner of the park and the room of Brahmavihara-Arama.
