The Process of Making Trafitional Salt

The salt processing in there is very dependent on season, It will be more optimal during the dry season because it relies on the scorching sun, if the rainy season of course the results will drop dramatically.
The following is the process of making traditional salt.

  • Beach sand is flattened, then the farmers pour sea water on the sand surface, the watering process can be up to 3-4 times.
  • Waiting for dry sand for about 4 hours (if the weather is clear), the dry sand will be brought to a hut and placed in a sand filter.
  • The sand is doused with sea water, so get the first salt water, filtered again 3-4 times so as to produce pure salt water.
  • Pure salt water which is the result of the distillation of the sand will be placed on stalls made of coconut trunks, then placed in the scorching sun.
  • After getting enough sunshine, the water will crystallize. This crystal is a high quality pure salt, taken by using a coconut shell to produce the small salt granules and ready for consumption.
