The History of Tirta Empul Temple

The name of Tampak Siring come from the word Tampak which means that the tread and Siring means tilt. One of the stories that names Usana Bali tells about the history of Tampak Siring Bali. Telapak that is in the tourist object is told as the tread of the king named Mayadenawa.

Mayadenawa is told by a powerful king, but has an evil nature and has an impression that he is a god. Because of his, God of Indra sent his troops, to destroy Mayadenawa. Mayadenawa lost the war against Dewa Indra and Mayadenawa ran into a forest. To remove footprints, Mayadenawa walked by tilting his foot into the middle of the forest.

Although Mayadenawa tried to remove his footprints, his attempt to escape failed. Before being arrested by Indra God's troops, Mayadenawa created a poisonous spring. With poisonous springs, Mayadenawa managed to kill a portion of the god Indra's army, who pursued Mayadenawa.

To overcome the poisonous spring from Mayadenawa, Indra God created a fountain of poison. This spring is called Tirta Empul (holy water), therefore the Temple that has this spring is called the Tirta Empul temple. The forest used for Mayadenawa fled, with the position of its foot tilted which is now the Tampak Siring Village.
